Befriending & Support Groups
We are there for our clients and service users at those difficult times in their lives when active support and intervention is needed.
The support groups featured on this page were started during the Covid-19 pandemic crisis and
are currently paused. We hope to restart them again as soon as we are able.
We have a long tradition of helping the most vulnerable members of the Irish Community in Coventry,
and our aim is to provide a culturally sensitive service that gets the necessary help, support
and advice to as many Irish people as possible.
Befriending initiatives
The Shamrock Group
This group is a culturally sensitive support service for Irish people living with memory loss. The group meets every Wednesday 12pm - 2:30pm at Christ the King. We also campaign to ensure the Irish Community living with memory loss are receiving the necessary support.
The Claddagh Group
This is a weekly members group that meets for coffee and chatting every Tuesday from 12pm-2pm at Flannelly's Club, Coventry. We arrange raffles, tombolas, cake sales, and guest speakers for the group along with regular activities, events, day trips and an annual holiday to Ireland.
The Carer's Group
This group offers respite and support to both carers and their families on the second Thursday of each month from 11am-1pm at the CIS office. The group also organises a variety of outings and other social events.
Our History
Coventry Irish Society provides a service to all generations
of the Irish community in Coventry and the surrounding areas.
The Coventry Irish Society (formerly known as ICARG) was set up in 1993 in response to an identified need to provide health and welfare services to some of the most vulnerable members of the Irish community in Coventry.
Our History
Our organisation has gradually evolved to provide a wide range of health and welfare services, and a variety of cultural and heritage projects, including a St. Patrick's Day Festival.
The Society has a committed and valued Trustee Board, and a dedicated, professional team of staff.
